Married charity boss who condemned f lings with Calais migrants has f ling with ... a Calais migrant!

- By Arthur Martin

A MArrIEd charity boss had a yearlong affair with a Calais refugee – after she promoted a ‘no sex with migrants’ policy. Clare Moseley, 46, embarked on a relationship with 27- year- old Tunisian Mohamed Bajjar while she worked in the notorious Jungle camp.

In 2015, she left behind her husband, Benjamin, and a £700,000 five-bedroom house in Merseyside to set up a charity called Care4Calais. The former accountant with Ernst & young told how her decision was hard on her 38-year-old spouse in an article written after she had been in Calais for four months.

But, according to volunteers at the camp, her visits back home became more sporadic after starting the affair with Mr Bajjar.

Mrs Moseley – named as one of ‘six women who made 2015’ by The guardian – was also said to have moved into a flat in Calais with the Tunisian, who worked as her bodyguard and translator. however, the relationship turned sour earlier this month when she feared he had stolen from her.

Care4Calais, which provided meals and clothing for thousands and is one of the biggest migrant charities in northern France, has a code of conduct which bans sexual relationships between volunteers and refugees.

In a recent interview, Mrs Moseley said such activity ‘will not be condoned on the basis of recognising the fundamental vulnerability of residents in refugee camps and the possibility of exploitative behaviour’.

She told of a male volunteer who was reported for inappropriate behaviour with women refugees and was persuaded to leave the Jungle.

Last night former volunteers at the camp said Mrs Moseley’s behaviour was ‘deeply hypocritical’.

One said: ‘She came out with these grand statements about zero-tolerance regarding relationships with migrants, yet at the time she was carrying on with one herself.

‘It is deeply hypocritical that the woman who runs the charity had this relationship. Towards the end of it, everyone in the camp knew about it.

‘It seems so unprofessional that an accountant would go to the Jungle and shack up with a migrant.’

Another volunteer added: ‘She fell for him in a big way and is now worried she could lose the charity.

‘Everyone knew about them’

Everyone in the camp knew about them. Migrants thought they were husband and wife.’

Mrs Moseley is now understood to have split up with Mr Bajjar, who was arrested on January 6 on suspicion of stealing her mobile phone but was released without charge. Friends of the charity boss claimed that Mr Bajjar had threatened to tell her husband of the affair and send him photos of them together.

he has previously posed as a Syrian refugee to try to reach the uk.

‘ If I get caught I will say I’m Syrian – they send Tunisians back as there’s no war,’ he said in a previous interview.

In September volunteers claimed that the Jungle, which has since been bulldozed, was awash with prostitution, underage sex and volunteers who had multiple migrant partners.

Last night Mrs Moseley refused to comment and said all questions should be directed to the charity’s press office.

A Care4Calais spokesman said: ‘Our priority remains to support and protect refugees in Calais, and this will not distract us from that vital mission.’
