My lips looked like raw sausages: Filler jabs put mother of 3 in hospital

- By Jim Norton

A MOTHER was left with lips ‘like raw sausages’ following a botched lip filler treatment to improve her pout, she claimed yesterday.

Leona Omalley, 24, said she was rushed to hospital after the £180 home visit caused swelling, pain and bleeding.

The mum of three, who had already had the procedure four times at a clinic, decided to take advantage of a local beautician’s ‘cheap deal’.

But she said that after the two-second injection, her mouth and lips began ‘pumping out blood’ and she endured the worst pain of her life.

She said the beautician then left, even though her face was swelling up.

Miss Omalley, who was taken to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan, accuses the beautician of poor hygiene and not explaining the consent form properly. She said needles came in a plastic bag, not a sterile case, baby wipes were used instead of antiseptic ones, and she did not wear gloves.

Experts warned against shopping online for the treatment, and said it should not be done by beauticians. They said four in five complaints involved ‘inadequately-trained individuals who have no medical qualifications’.

Chloe Topping, who carried out the procedure, has denied the allegations. Miss Omalley said: ‘She stabbed into my mouth all in one shot – it was over in two seconds. I’ve never experienced pain like it. My mouth and lips were pumping out blood and I was panicking.

‘I was told, “Don’t worry, it’s normal”. Then she left. It looked like there were two raw sausages tied on my face. My mouth was stinging. My face started going tight and my eyes were swelling up. My mouth swelled so badly I couldn’t speak or drink. I experienced traumatic stress. It was so scary.’

She spent six hours in hospital and was given steroids. Miss Omalley, mother of Lily, five, Nellie, 18 months, and Tommy, seven months, added: ‘My children were traumatised. When my mum saw me she was sick.’

Harley Street cosmetic doctor Dr Dan Dhunna said: ‘Cheap is not chic. You don’t search for fillers like a bargain in the sales. These treatments should not be performed by non-medical people.’

Miss Topping, from Bolton, described herself as an ‘advanced aesthetics prac- titioner’ at Belissimo Aesthetics. The firm’s Facebook page is now closed.

She said: ‘If I turned up with equipment in a carrier bag and didn’t have gloves on why would she let me anywhere near her with a needle?

‘She read the consent form. Why sign a document if she had no idea what it was about? It’s absolute madness. I did not stab her or inject from one side only, that would have resulted in uneven lips.

‘I left the numbing cream on until she was happy they were numb, I used antiseptic wipes on the area and afterwards I handed her a wet wipe to get any little bits of blood from the injection sites.

‘Her face didn’t swell, just her lips. None of it is true.’
