THE concluding half picks up five months into Shaun and Rachel’s new life on the remote Scottish island, where the community is tight, life is challengin­g and access — on and off the island — is ruled by the weather. Like a humane British answer to those extreme Alaskan reality series.

ACTION SERIES REBOOT MacGyver, 8pm, Sky 1

LIKE the MacGyver of the Eighties, the secret agent at the centre of this new series (played by Lucas Till) solves problems with science, not guns. That’s a nice idea and while the show is short on charisma, the fun of seeing his outlandish plans unfolding remains. Look out for Vinnie Jones in this opener.

U.S. COLLEGE TALE Goat, 8pm, Sky Premiere

FILMS set in fraternity houses are often goofy comedies, but this is a more serious drama. It’s a startling insight into the brutal initiation ceremonies once common in U.S. colleges.

EPIC DRAMA Roots, 9pm, BBC4

PRICEY-looking remake of the 1977 series about a slave’s journey from Africa to the U.S. It’s brutal, but also powerfully acted throughout, especially by Britain’s Malachi Kirby (pictured) as the defiant Kunta Kinte. James Purefoy plays his master in Virginia, and Forest Whitaker is the soulful, well-heeled slave who begs him to fit in.

OZ UPDATE Emerald City,y, 9pm,p, 5Star

THIS bold fantastica­l adventure is based on the original novels by L. Frank Baum, which inspired The Wizard Of Oz. Adria Arjona stars as ffeistyi DDorothyh Gale, who, while searching for the mother who gave her up for adoption, is swept up into a tornado and transporte­d to a mystical land of witches (including Joely Richardson’s Glinda,

pictured) and wizards.

NYPD COP Castle, 9pm, 5 USA

IN THE penultimat­e slice of season six, the show concludes the emotional story that has underpinne­d it since the start: Beckett’s pursuit of justice for her murdered mother. It’s a must-see for fans and follows the detective as she turns fugitive in pursuit of evidence to convict the slippery Senator Bracken.
