Rubbish neighbours

-

WHEN my elderly mother moved to her housing association flat it was a well looked after development where tenants and the housing association took pride in their surroundings.

Fast forward 30 years and it is like a sink estate, where fly- tipping is common. All manner of items, from cot mattresses to unwanted furniture and garden refuse, are dumped, waiting for someone else to clean up the mess.

We have complained on numerous occasions to the housing association, but no solution is found. They are quick to send a letter to tenants if bread is thrown out for the birds, but seem reluctant to do the same here.

My mother bought her flat a few years ago and wonders if she did the right thing. She pays nearly £100 a month in service charges plus council tax to look out on to other people’s mess. What a selfish world we live in.
