Key fobbed off
IF YOU’VE got a keyless-entry car, watch out! I’ve had to have my new Land Rover Freelander 2 broken into twice, damaging the driver’s door in the process. I had to wait four hours for a technician and then I had to sign a waiver against any damage caused by the forced entries.
It had to be broken into because the key-operated lock for emergency access was inaccessible, being on the left-hand side, which was parked against a wall. Land Rover’s
explanation is that the circuit which responds to the key fob powers down to save the car’s battery from draining and then won’t unlock the car in response to the key fob.
This idea may be used by other keyless-entry car manufacturers, so check which side the emergency access lock is. If it’s on the left, mind where you park.
