SYLLA SINKS TYKES

-

BARNSLEY became QPR’s latest victims last night as Ian Holloway’s in-form side continued their fine form in the Championship. The west London club have now won four of their last five fixtures, having flirted with relegation earlier in the season. With Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe watching in the stands at Loftus Road, Idrissa Sylla’s opener and an Angus MacDonald own goal did the job for QPR. ‘I’m going to have a headache over who to take on that bus to Leeds on Saturday,’ said Holloway, who made five changes to his starting line-up. Barnsley had won only once in their last seven games going into this match, having sold striker Sam Winnall to Sheffield Wednesday in January. Back then, Barnsley were pushing for a play-off place. Now, they are very much mid-table. The same goes for QPR, who took only seven minutes to open the scoring. A cross by Yeni Ngbakoto was not cleared and the ball bounced off Sylla and crept in. Barnsley nearly equalised through Marley Watkins before MacDonald put a cross into his own net. Barnsley scored in the 79th minute through substitute Tom Bradshaw but the home side held on to ensure the Tykes are now winless in their last 23 trips to Loftus Road.
