Wenger: It’s all the ref’s fault

- SAMI MOKBEL at Emirates Stadium

ARSENE WENGER blamed everyone but himself for another humiliating night in the Champions League. The Arsenal manager made the startling claim that his team are in ‘good shape’ despite their embarrassing 10-2 aggregate defeat by Bayern Munich. Wenger took issue with the Greek referee Tasos Sidiropoulos, who denied Theo Walcott a penalty before half-time which could have given Arsenal a 2-0 lead. The official later sent off Gunners captain Laurent Koscielny for conceding a penalty after the break, having initially decided to book him. ‘Did the players let me down? No, the referee has let us down,’ said Wenger. ‘It leaves me very angry and frustrated. When you see the importance of the game and you see an attitude like that I am absolutely revolted and sorry for people who come and pay money to watch this kind of game. It is absolutely inexplainable and scandalous.’ Arsenal have lost five of their last seven games, with calls for Wenger to leave getting louder. Nevertheless, Wenger added: ‘We produced a performance with the spirit and pride that we wanted. After that the story finishes badly. I think this club is in a great shape that at this moment is going through a difficult situation.’
