Watkins at double to sink Wakefield

-

KALLUM WATKINS scored his first tries of 2017 as Leeds Rhinos romped to a 38- 14 win over Wakefield.

The 26-year-old centre opened the scoring when he went over beneath the posts but Super League’s young player of the year Tom Johnstone quickly replied for Trinity.

Anthony Mullally powered through the Wakefield defence to score against his old club and Watkins doubled his tally for the evening on the stroke of half-time.

Ryan Hall increased the Rhinos advantage after the break and although David Fifita pulled one back, Adam Cuthbertson’s third try of the season and a Matt Parcell finish gave Leeds a comfortable lead.

Johnstone scored his second in the last minute but could not prevent Wakefield from slipping to their third defeat of the season.

Leeds’ victory means they have won backto-back Super League matches following their 66-10 drubbing by Castleford earlier this month.

Hull FC were also convincing winners last night with a 32-12 victory over Widnes, who remain winless this season.
