Koeman: Don’t boo Romelu

- JACK GAUGHAN

RONALD KOEMAN is unworried about the prospect of Everton fans jeering Romelu Lukaku today — and insists the club can reach the Champions League in 2018.

Lukaku told the Toffees that he won’t be signing a new contract and wants to move elsewhere.

But Koeman revealed Lukaku will play against Hull City today and that he does not expect a hostile reception from the home fans inside Goodison Park.

‘If he shows his commitment in his football, then everyone will realise it’s no problem. He is young and can make mistakes,’ Koeman said.

Everton would need to invest vast sums this summer to match the 23-year-old’s ambitions. And Koeman is confident Everton can challenge for Champions League qualification next season.

‘We can make the next step if we get in what we want this summer. You can’t do it in one year, it takes time,’ he added.
