Mum ‘let off ’ over cannabis farm in bedroom

- By Jim Norton

A SELFIE-obsessed mother has avoided jail after being caught with a ‘sophisticated’ cannabis farm in the home she shares with her four-year-old son.

Paris Connolly, 25, admitted growing 16 plants, valued at £8,000, in her spare bedroom – but said they were for personal use only.

Manchester Crown Court heard that she smoked the drug outside her home in Moston while her son was asleep upstairs in the bedroom they shared.

Connolly, pictured, who is unemployed, walked free from court but was given a community order to complete 180 hours of unpaid work while her child attends nursery.

The boy’s father is serving a three-year jail sentence for an undisclosed offence and Connolly is the sole carer.

Police raiding her house found she had kitted out her spare room with overhead light units, an extraction tube and power packs attached to aluminium-covered walls.

Detectives also found £320 in cash at the home. Connolly was one of 18 suspects arrested during a police crackdown on drug trafficking.

The mother, who attempts to model herself on reality TV star Kim Kardashian, is to complete the unpaid work over 12 months.

The judge, Recorder Rowena Goode, said: ‘The concern of the court is clearly that there was a very young child in this house, a child you care for.

‘I hear what you say about the fact you keep that room locked and you take cannabis outside the house and didn’t subject him to any sort of influence.

‘But you need to understand as he grows that becomes less and less possible for you.’ She added: ‘You need to look after your son.’

Prosecuting, Rachel Widdicombe described the ‘neatly’ organised cannabis farm and said it was ‘a sophisticated set-up’.

Michael Maher, defending, said it was a ‘domestic operation’ but agreed it was ‘unusual’ given the sophistication of her methods.
