Silly Lily: Now we can blame Brexit for everything!

As Bremoaners STILL can’t swallow result...

- By Deputy Political Editor

LILY Allen yesterday declared that Theresa May was being ‘very un-Christian’ – joining a chorus of Remoaners in venting their anger at the country leaving the EU.

The pop singer claimed that every job lost from now on would be the fault of Brexit supporters – while Labour and Liberal Democrat politicians who are in denial spread doom about the historic move.

Miss Allen wrote on Twitter the poor are ‘about to get poorer’ and posted a message that read: ‘Dear EU, if you’re reading this, it’s too late.’

She attacked the Prime Minister’s warning the EU needed to strike a deal with the UK to protect security co-operation.

‘HEINOUS for PM to use human lives as bargaining chips for trade deals. Very extreme, very unchristian,’ she wrote.

When Twitter users warned Miss Allen they would stop buying her records because of her doom-mongering, she happily replied: ‘I can live off my royalties comfortably if no one ever bought an album of mine again.’

Former Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown denied Mrs May had the mandate to take the country out of the Single Market, arguing that some had voted to Leave as they had ‘ got out of bed the wrong way’.

He told the BBC’s Daily Politics: ‘The British people voted, doubtless some to leave the single market, doubtless some to stop immigration completely, but some for many other reasons.

‘Some to send a message to Westminster, some because they got out of bed the wrong way that morning.’ Tim Farron, current Lib Dem leader, accused Mrs May of ‘leaping into the abyss without any idea of where our country will end up’. Gus O’Donnell, the former head of the civil service, said the scale of the Brexit challenge is greater than going to war. Lord O’Donnell said leaving the EU was like leaping from a plane with a parachute ‘designed in a way to deter anybody else jumping out’. He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘This is much bigger than anything I did – coalition, wars – this affects all parts and all the people in the country, so it’s massive.’

Labour figures lined up to give astonishing predictions about the country’s future. Owen Smith, who lost against Jeremy Corbyn in last year’s leadership contest, posted on Twitter: ‘The £ has tanked, we’re facing another £100billion in debt, and the UK is at risk of break-up. That’s how Brexit begins. It can’t be how it ends.’

David Lammy wrote: ‘ Today we “take back control” … by driving our economy off a cliff for nothing.’ Gordon Brown said it was a ‘very difficult day’, adding: ‘I’ve been thinking that the only things that have been moving forward this week in Britain are the clocks.’

David Miliband posted: ‘ Beneath the rhetoric and the decorum, Britain just got smaller. Brexit is unparalleled self-harm. Children will live with consequences.’
