Reconnect with a scooter

-

MANY people experience loneliness in their lives because of decreased mobility and GPs say that up to five of the patients they see every day are there because they feel lonely. Research shows that loneliness can be as bad for your health as smoking, raising the risk of an early death by up to 26 per cent. People who find themselves alone miss such simple things as sitting with someone and sharing a laugh. Scooter companies often hear from their customers that their scooters have allowed them to reconnect with their family and friends and take more part in their community, making a very positive impact on their daily lives and wellbeing. Owners report how good it is to be able to get out of the house again, go to the park with the grandchildren, visit the cinema and museums, or shop at a supermarket. Confidence-boosting five-wheel scooters are now available on contract hire, from £22 a month. Five-wheel scooters have a better turning circle and greater control on kerbs and inclines, while providing more foot space and good posture control, reducing stress on back, hips, knees and ankle joints.

FOR trips to the golf course and other rugged terrain, a scooter built for Nordic conditions (pictured right) might be the answer. These scooters can be adapted with a larger seat or extra support if your needs change over time, which is ideal for those with arthritis, for example.
