Rodgers pledges to stay as Celtic romp to the title

-

BRENDAN RODGERS sealed his first Scottish Premiership title yesterday with Celtic’s biggest league win at Tynecastle since 1890. The victory secured Celtic their sixth league title in a row for only the third time in the club’s history. This season, it included a 30-game league unbeaten run and was achieved with eight games still to play. A hat-trick by Scott Sinclair, plus goals for Stuart Armstrong and Patrick Roberts, wrapped up Celtic’s 48th league success. Rodgers is now gunning for a first Celtic domestic treble since 2001, and he warned his domestic rivals that his young team will only get better. Rodgers also dispelled fears of him making an early return to English football. ‘There is not a place I could be in this world right now where I’d be happier in my football life and personal life,’ Rodgers said. ‘I’m very comfortable here. You have to appreciate what you have and I am a bit older and more mature. That ambition, you have to be careful. It’s only the start for us and I have a responsibility for the supporters. ‘Being one of them, I know what they want and I want to try and bring them as far to that as I can. ‘When my time is up, hopefully I will have left a legacy that they can smile about and then it’ll be over to the next one. ‘Until that moment comes which hopefully won’t be for a while, I’m very content.’ Addressing jibes of a onehorse title race, Rodgers insisted Celtic had to work hard to win the title. ‘It wasn’t easy,’ he added. ‘The number may tell you that, but it’s not our way of thinking. Every game is tough, but it’s how you make it look.’
