Howe keen to keep Wilshere

- SAM CUNNINGHAM at St Mary’s

EDDIE HOWE says Bournemouth want to sign Jack Wilshere permanently, despite starting him on the bench for a fourth successive match. Now 25, the midfielder’s career is in limbo. Out of favour at Arsenal to the extent he opted for a season-long loan to play, yet Bournemouth’s upsurge in form — Saturday’s stalemate was their fourth match unbeaten — has coincided with Wilshere being dropped. ‘We love Jack, we would love to sign him,’ Howe said. ‘But that decision will rest with Arsenal, with Jack, with other people. And Jack may well see his future elsewhere.’ Wilshere came on with 20 minutes to go at St Mary’s and turned the game. ‘He was the defining factor in us gaining control of that game, we should have gone on to win, because of his performance,’ Howe said. ‘He’s got a great attitude behind the scenes, he’s trained so well, and that’s reflected when he’s come on.’
