Going to the dogs

-

It Is sad indeed that Wimbledon’s Plough Lane greyhounds have run their last races at the stadium and there is no longer any greyhound racing in the capital (Mail).

Birmingham’s splendid Hall green greyhound stadium is due to close next year to make way for housing, leaving the city’s Perry Barr track, which also hosts speedway racing, as the only one left in the second city.

As greyhound racing is supposed to be the sixth most popular spectator sport in the country, it is a shame that stadiums are being sold off.

the dogs stopped being raced at Coventry’s famous Brandon stadium a couple of years ago, and I believe the speedway and stock cars are going the same way.
