Hopping mad

-

FurtHer to the wallaby in Kent (Mail), 15 years ago we got two wallabies, Bruce and sheila, for our Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park overlooking Cardigan Bay.

Within a few days they both escaped by squeezing under a fence. they were gone for six weeks before we caught them — with a very long fishing net — three miles away. Bruce was spotted by council bin men on a housing estate as he watched them at work. He was hopping mad when we caught him.

there are more than 100 wild wallabies in the uK; they’ve even been seen on the Isle of skye. (By the way, never say ‘wallaby’ in a pub, or someone’s bound to say ‘a large gin and tonic, please’.) LYN JAMES JENKINS,

Gwbert, Cardigan.
