Souness: Rooney must go
GRAEME SOUNESS believes Wayne Rooney should move abroad at the end of the season. The Liverpool legend says Rooney has failed to make a successful switch from striker to deep-lying midfielder. And as a result, Souness believes Rooney has endured his ‘worst season’ as a professional. Speaking to promote Sky Sports football coverage, Souness said: ‘An occasional ping of a ball from right to left wing does not make a good central midfielder. There is a lot more to it than that. ‘He is 31, I had my best football at 31 so I am mystified with it. He is not understanding that position. This will have been his worst season of professional football. He has just not played enough games. That will be hurtful to him. I don’t see him accepting that, so it is more likely he will go abroad.’
