The Greatest Dane! Is 15st Balthazar our heaviest hound?
WEIGHING in at more than 15st, Balthazar the Great Dane leaves no doubt about who’s top dog.
The five-year-old pet weighs more than a baby elephant – and he could be the heaviest hound in the country.
Although he measures 7ft from nose to tail and 3ft 3in from paw to shoulder, his owner Vinnie Monte-Irvine, 46, says Balthazar is a gentle giant. He said: ‘He is a calm dog and he mostly likes to just sit around with our cats.
‘He lives in the kitchen which thankfully is a big kitchen but it can make a cooking a challenge at times.’ Balthazar munches through more than 15lb of food a week, costing £108 a month.
Mr Monte-Irvine, who lives with wife Dixie, 39, and children Francesca, 11, Gloria, four, and two-year-old Tyrion, took Balthazar to the vet where he was weighed at 15st 6lb.
The business analyst, of Gedling, Nottingham, said: ‘Everyone at the surgery was gobsmacked.’
Guinness World Records does not record the heaviest dog for animal welfare reasons.
