ILIE NASTASE attempted an apology for his behaviour at last week’s Fed Cup tie against Great Britain in Romania, in which he called Jo Konta and Anne Keothavong ‘bitches’. ‘Nothing can really excuse my words,’ he said. ‘I assure you that behind them was my desire to defend the interests of the Romanian team. ‘I think what happened was exaggerated from all sides. ‘Johanna Konta should not have spoken with the chair umpire.’
