It’s not quite No 10! Dave’s new office is £25k shepherd’s hut
IT MAY look as though David Cameron has downsized to an absurd degree since departing No 10 Downing Street last summer.
In fact, the former prime minister is planning to use this trendy £25,000 shepherd’s hut as an office in which to write his memoirs.
However, the ex-Conservative MP now has a power struggle on his hands over his new hideaway – with his children.
‘There’s been a bit of a fight already; my children want to use it as a Wendy house,’ he confessed. ‘I want to use it as a book-writing room and my son even wants it as an alternative bedroom.’
Elwen, 11, slept in the 16ft by 7ft double-glazed cabin on the first night it was delivered, Mr Cameron revealed, adding: ‘I wasn’t going to take him on.’
Meanwhile the hut’s makers, fatherand-son team Paul and Adam Bennett of Red Sky Shepherds Huts, have revealed how one of Mr Cameron’s policy decisions while still in power led to the pair setting up in business.
A blog on the firm’s website, which described how the two men and Mr Cameron had been ‘connected through one of life’s charming twists of fate’, said: ‘He allowed people to cash their pension in at 55 and use the money to do things like Paul did – start a shepherd hut business!’
But despite the glowing celebrity online plug, Paul Bennett, who is based in Oxfordshire, insisted: ‘He paid full price and was absolutely not paid for the blog.’
Mr Cameron, 50, didn’t even get a say in the colour scheme. His wife Samantha chose the Farrow and Ball shades – Mouse’s Back for the exterior and Old White inside.
The inspiration to buy it for the garden of the family’s Cotswold home came from visits to Mrs Cameron’s mother, who has one similar in Scotland. On the firm’s site, Mr Cameron explained: ‘I basically googled “shepherd’s huts”, found Paul’s company and liked the look of the website. They were also local, which was good.’
The shepherd huts do not require planning permission and can be loaded on to a truck.
