Hen-do reveller 27, in Benidorm death plunge

British man arrested over ‘homicide’

- By Chris Brooke

A British tourist has been arrested after a woman at a hen party fell to her death from the tenth-floor of a block of flats in Benidorm.

the unnamed man was held on suspicion of homicide and questioned after a night in custody.

the dead British woman, a 27year- old called Kirsty, is not believed to have known him.

sources say the arrest by spanish police was a ‘precautionary measure’ and homicide is being considered among other possibilities.

there was local speculation that the woman had taken drugs and had been drinking before plunging to her death from the Payma Apartments at about 8am on saturday.

Local authorities said she had travelled to the Costa Blanca with 35 female friends.

the hen group had gone to bed at 4am and Kirsty is said to have left her room two hours later, dressed but barefoot.

she entered a room directly above hers where five British male tourists were sleeping. spanish tV station Antena 3 claimed she smoked a cigarette before falling to her death.

it is understood 14 people, friends of Kirsty’s staying above, next door to her and below, as well as the five British men, were taken to a police station in Benidorm to make statements.

One source said: ‘it’s possible she became disorientated and ended up there by accident. the man who has been arrested is the one who opened the door to her and was near her when the incident happened.’

Another source said: ‘there’s nothing at the moment to indicate any criminal wrongdoing on the part of any of the five men in that room.

‘ the version of events recounted by the man taken into custody didn’t quite match that of the others.

‘But they admitted to drinking heavily and taking drugs that night and it just wasn’t possible for the police to take a statement from this person because of the state he was in.’

Police are not commenting other than to say: ‘the matter is under investigation. it appears she was with other people at the time.’

it is likely toxicology tests will be carried out after a postmortem examination.

Michael harvey, 27, who owns a bar across from the block of flats, told MailOnline: ‘Nothing like this has happened before so it’s a bit of a shock. it’s just been a terrible, terrible mishap and a poor girl has lost her life.’

supermarket worker Danielle hall, 21, from Newcastle, plunged to her death in the resort last November after losing her balance on her ninthfloor hotel balcony.
