THIS IS WHAT 50 LOOKS LIKE
Laura White is a receptionist. She lives in hereford with her husband, David, and their two children, who are 19 and 16.
LIGHT UP
MY FRIENDS all think I’ve had Botox but I haven’t — yet! However, I do get a monthly light fusion facial. Infrared light can be used to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, helping to repair cells and rejuvenate skin. It is delivered by a special plastic mask in a 20-minute session and costs £65. It has given me the confidence boost to go without foundation.
HANDY TREATMENT
WHEN my generation was growing up, there was so little awareness about the importance of keeping out of the sun. As a result, I now have sun spots on my hands, which can be one of the biggest age giveaways. So this year I decided to try a laser rejuvenation treatment. It has worked wonders, reducing the appearance of pigmentation, wrinkles and prominent hand veins.
TONING TRICK
I’VE never been a huge exercise fan, so instead I try to incorporate active choices into my daily routines. This might involve parking at the opposite end of the supermarket; or running up escalators. A great cheat is to walk upstairs on tip-toes, as this helps to sculpt the glutes, lifting the buttocks, which can head south with age.
COOL CAST-OFFS
MY 16-year-old daughter never fails to point out if I’m wearing ‘mum clothes’. The upside is she often likes to offer styling suggestions, which has led me to discover some younger High Street brands. Now I wear some of her New Look and Topshop outfits.
BATHING BEAUTY
WHEN feeling stressed, I resist the temptation to treat myself with food, which should only be for nutrition. Instead, I look forward to three long baths every week. I mix up a relaxing concoction of Epsom salts and essential oils: the high magnesium content is amazing for soothing menopausal symptoms. My skin is better, as are my mood, sleep and migraines.
