It’s hard for Ozil to deal with critics — Arsene
ARSENE WENGER has revealed midfielder Mesut Ozil is struggling to cope with the harsh criticism aimed at his performances. Arsenal’s Germany international has been targeted — even by his own fans — after a string of below-par displays. And manager Wenger said: ‘He embraces the challenge to play big games. Does he embrace the challenge to be criticised? I’m not sure. ‘Big players have to carry the responsibility of the team. Does it suit him having responsibility? I don’t know.’ Wenger has had several heart-to-heart chats with Ozil, who is finding it difficult to rediscover the form that prompted Arsenal to pay a club-record £42million to sign him from Real Madrid in 2013. Ozil is in a stand-off with Arsenal, refusing to sign a new contract worth about £250,000 a week. He wants £300,000 but has failed to convince the club he is worth it. Wenger, who admitted Arsenal have not received any formal approaches for Ozil, said: ‘Before we spend big money we analyse all our commitments. ‘We have many other players to extend and you have to make sure you have the resources available.’
