Drink-driving Page 3 girl ‘too scared of stalker to hand herself in’

- By Arthur Martin

A FORMER Page Three girl wanted by police claims she is too scared to hand herself in because a stalker is trying to murder her.

Lara Green is being hunted by detectives after she failed to appear in court on a drink-driving charge.

The 36-year-old said she was in hiding after being attacked and left in a car in April last year.

Police issued a public appeal online two weeks ago which said: ‘Have you seen wanted woman Lara Green?’

The former model, of Shoreham, West Sussex, then contacted a local newspaper claiming she must stay in hiding. ‘I am out of Sussex because someone tried to kill me,’ she told the Brighton Argus.

‘I have to stay in hiding, due to someone trying to murder me. I was run over and beaten. All I know is that I was walking down the street, then I woke up in the back of a car, covered in blood.’

She supplied the newspaper with a photo of herself with blood on her face, and claimed the injuries were inflicted by a stalker in the attack in Hove.

She said her email address and social media accounts had since been hacked.

Miss Green, who used to pose topless for The Sun, said she had not visited Sussex for a year because she was worried about being attacked again.

She accused Sussex Police of failing to investigate the stalking claims properly and has lodged a complaint against the force. ‘I don’t see how I can ever Absent from trial: Lara Green safely walk the streets again,’ she said. ‘I’m petrified. Living in fear of a stalker is no fun.

‘I feel standing up to this is the only way to be free from it. It was my brother’s birthday and I could not meet my family … People must think I’m a criminal. It’s like a sick joke.’

She added that police had her email address and could have contacted her. Sussex Police issued an appeal to find her on April 28 because she had ‘failed

to attend Worthing magistrates’ court in December 2016 after being charged with drinkdriving’. Court records show she was convicted in her absence on December 8 and a warrant for her arrest was issued.

In 2011, the former model said she was being stalked by a mental patient over Facebook. Miss Green, a former hostess on The Generation Game, claimed he had posted comments including ‘burn Lara Green’s eyes out’.

During the height of her career he broke into her house and left a diamond engagement ring.

Police issued him with a restraining order, but he continued to pester her, she said.

Sussex Police has offered no explanation as to why it has taken more than five months to issue the appeal. The force made no comment about Miss Green’s stalking claims.

A spokesman said Independent Police Complaints Commission guidelines on stalking cases had been issued to the force after the murder of Shana Grice, 19, who had contacted police several times about unwanted attention from her killer, ex-boyfriend Michael Lane.
