Accountancy adds up to a great deal

- SARAH HARRIS

BOOKKEEPER Ricardo Pereira was inspired to start his own business by his mother, who was also in the profession.

The 32-year-old, from Lisbon, Portugal, set up a successful business after taking an online bookkeeping course. Ricardo joined specialist e-learning college Ideal Schools, which focuses exclusively on bookkeeping and accountancy.

He qualified as a member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) in 2015.

That same year, Ricardo opened Lamosa Business Services to cater for clients around Brixton, South London. He now has so many businesses asking for his skills that he is already looking at a significant expansion.

He says: ‘I wanted ICB certification and checked the colleges that offered ICB training. Ideal Schools was the most helpful about getting me the training I wanted, rather than my money.’

And Mark Williams, 38, from Raglan, Monmouthshire, who did bookkeeping for his local British Legion, started a business after enrolling with Ideal Schools last March.

Mark launched Choice Bookkeeping in December and has a wide range of clients from his area.

He says: ‘I built the website myself and started a social media presence, and clients have been coming to me from across the Monmouth area.

‘Ideal Schools provided help and support, even at the weekend, and my assessments were marked in less than 24 hours.’
