Fireworks? So passé! Pippa is having a Spitfire flypast

- By Rebecca English Royal Correspondent

FOR some celebrations, fireworks are just not spectacular enough.

So Pippa Middleton has decided to stage her own air show to mark her wedding on Saturday.

She and her family thought fireworks ‘rather passé’, according to sources.

Instead Pippa and her fiance, multimillionaire hedge fund boss James Matthews, have booked a display of vintage aircraft, with a flypast by a wartime Spitfire as the centrepiece.

It is believed that Pippa’s air show may also include a Hurricane.

Locals say her mother, Carole, has already apologised to neighbours in Bucklebury, Berkshire, for any inconvenience that may be caused.

‘They were apparently going to have fireworks but they stopped that idea and are having some kind of air show. Real aeroplanes and stunts,’ one told the Mail

The display will add to the grandeur of the event, which has already seen a £100,000, 140ft-long glass conservatory-style marquee put up in the garden of the Middletons’ £5million home.

The family has also ordered £6,000 topof-the-range portable toilets for the 350 guests at the lavish reception that will follow the wedding ceremony at St Mark’s Church in Englefield. Family sources had said that the celebrations would have a relaxed, countryside feel.

According to Paul Campbell, project manager at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar, which has 14 original wartime Spitfires, flypasts at weddings are becoming increasingly popular. However the vintage air display planed by Pippa will cost tens of thousands.

A single aircraft costs up to £2,500 plus VAT to hire. Mr Campbell said, adding: ‘The Spitfire is a very special aircraft and brides will often surprise their husband with a flypast on the day.’

It is believed that the unnamed company putting on Saturday’s display has issued a NOTAM – Notice To Airmen – through local aviation authorities.

This alerts commercial and private aircraft pilots of potential hazards in the skies over Bucklebury that afternoon. It is not believed that anyone has applied for a full no-fly zone, as Kensington Palace did when William and Kate came to stay at the house after Prince George was born.

Prince Harry’s girlfriend Meghan Markle arrived in the UK from Canada yesterday to attend the wedding, and was driven straight from Heathrow to Kensington Palace, according to reports.
