Villa Larose Vaucluse Rose 2016, £6, Sainsbury’s A NEW rose for summer, this is made in the Vaucluse region, near Provence. Fresh and fruity, it’s full of refreshing redcurrant flavours.
WHITE WINE
Domaine de Menard Cuvee Marine 2016, £8.99, Averys FROM the Cotes de Gascogne in south-west France, this is a crisp white made from local grapes including Gros Manseng, Colombard and Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyards lie on fossilised oyster shells, giving this a mineral edge. If you like Sancerre, here’s a greatvalue alternative.
FOOD PAIRING: Seafood.
RED WINE
Origin Pure No Sulphur Added Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, £5.49, Aldi A GREAT red from South Africa’s Western Cape, stuffed with blackcurrant flavours. ‘No sulphur added’ means it hasn’t been topped up with this chemical, as most wines are, to protect it from air and keep it fresh. It tastes fresh as a daisy.
FOOD PAIRING: Beef stew.
ROSE WINE
Tesco Finest Rose Champagne Brut NV, £22 PRETTY rose champagne from a fine producer, this is light and full of redcurrant. Gets its colour from red grapes Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. There’s a whiff of just popped toast, too. Great value.
FOOD PAIRING: Sushi.
