Satellite choice
SAILING America’s Cup, 6pm, BT Sport 1
ORACLE TEAM USA — owned by Larry Ellison — won in 2013, and the crew will defend the title this year. But in a break with tradition, they are competing in these roundrobins in Bermuda, which are a chance to assess the opposition.
ON-DEMAND DRAMA Animal Kingdom, Amazon Prime, Season 2, Episode 1
WHAT’S fascinating about this returning U.S. drama is how crime family matriarch Smurf (a steely Ellen Barkin) slips between parenting and plotting. She’s better at balancing the two than Tony Soprano. A new episode arrives every Wednesday.
FAMILY FILM A Bug’s Life, 8pm, Sky Disney
PIXAR’S follow-up to Toy Story re-creates the toyroom magic, this time with a cast of adorable bugs. Flik is the clever ant who sets out to liberate his colony from grasshopper tyranny.
ANIMAL MAGIC! Koko: The Gorilla Who Talks To People, 9pm, BBC4
SINCE 1971, Penny Patterson has been teaching a gorilla to communicate through sign language, and this film charts their extraordinary relationship. Penny has taught Koko more than 1,000 words, and the project has redefined the line between humans and apes.
ON-DEMAND MOVIE Jackie, BT TV Store, Sky Store, Virgin
THIS classy drama about Jackie Kennedy wisely steers clear of JFK’s assassination, and focuses on the challenges of grieving — and living — in public. Natalie Portman is intense, but subtle, in the lead.
FREEVIEW U.S. DRAMA Bones, 9pm, Pick
THE tenth season of this popular U.S. investigative drama makes its Freeview premiere. It picks up three months after the ninth, with Booth (David Boreanaz) in prison — alongside a few familiar faces he helped to put inside. Brennan (Emily Deschanel, pictured with Boreanaz) has a plan to get him out, but will it be worth the price?
FAMILY MATTERS Long Lost Family U.S., 9pm, Quest Red
ELAINE and Tom had a high-school pregnancy, and gave the baby up for adoption. Years later, they thought they’d found him — but a DNA test proved them wrong and here, Lisa Joyner helps the couple to search further. (Freeview 38, Sky 162, Virgin 215)
FANTASY FLICK The Wolverine, 9pm, Film4
ONE of the best outings for the mutton-chopped X-Man. Hugh Jackman is back as Logan, who this time heads to Japan and an old friend who can cure him of the curse of immortality.
HOLLYWOOD TALE The Warner Saga, 10pm, Sky Arts
APPEALING documentary that relates the rise of the Warner brothers, Polish Americans who championed outsider stars and stories, and whose studio took off with The Jazz Singer in 1927. They were certainly terrific, buccaneering characters.
ALASKA Power & Ice, 10pm, History
THIS new reality series follows the ‘special forces of the electrical trade’. These men work on power lines with ‘the killing power of 300 electric chairs’, and seem to enjoy the drama of showing their world on telly — and the cameras don’t stop them from swearing!
