Missing au pair given a night off to see friends

-

A NANNY who was given the evening off to enjoy a night out with friends is feared to be a victim.

Sara Zelenak, 21, was told at the last minute by the grandmother of the children she was caring for that she would do her babysitting duties on Saturday night.

The Australian au pair was last seen on London Bridge and is understood to have witnessed the start of the attacks before becoming separated from her friends.

Her distraught family, from Brisbane, called every hospital in London in an attempt to find her.

Last night Miss Zelenak’s mother Julie Wallace was planning to fly to London. Her stepfather Mark Wallace said the emergency services had been unable to say what has happened to her.

Mr Wallace said: ‘I feel terrible, I can’t think. She’s been gone for 48 hours and no one has seen or heard from her.’

He said he and his wife had planned to meet up with Miss Zelenak in France at the end of June. The au pair, who moved to London last year, was planning to return to Australia in August.

Relatives and friends launched a campaign on social media in a desperate attempt to find her.

Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull said that of four Australians caught up in the attack there were ‘real concerns’ for two. These are thought to include Miss Zelenak.
