Hero knifed in the neck and head

-

A HERO who was seriously injured after confronting one of the terrorists should be awarded the George Cross for his bravery, his friends said yesterday.

Roy Larner, 47, was stabbed in his head, neck, hands and back after trying to fight off the attackers on Saturday night.

The father-of-one, a Millwall FC fan, put his own life in danger to help others escape the knife-wielding maniacs.

He was initially in intensive care and was last night still receiving treatment at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. Speaking from his hospital bed, Mr Larner, from Peckham, south London, was modest, saying: ‘I just did what I had to do.’

His friend Archie Webber-Brown has set up a petition calling for him to be given the George Cross, the highest award a civilian can receive for showing extreme courage in the face of adversity.

And a JustGiving page set up for the hero as he recovers had raised more than £8,000 last night.
