Fit for policing

-

THE police insist that during a terrorist attack, the public should ‘run, hide and call us’.

Fortunately, many brave people will try to help those in need, and for that we should be thankful.

There are calls to recruit more police, including armed officers, but would it not be more feasible to simply raise the police retirement age from 55?

Don’t tell me it’s a fitness issue. How fit do you need to be for backroom jobs and management roles? This would free up the younger and fitter officers for front-line duties.

STEPHEN BIRDS, Bury, Gtr Manchester. I HAVE always joked that when there was trouble anywhere in the world, ‘Millwall supporters would sort that lot out in their tea break’.

After the heroism of football fan Roy Larner, who shouted ‘F*** you, I’m Millwall’ when he took on the knife-wielding terrorists at Borough Market with his bare fists, it appears I was right. A. STILL, Ilford, Essex.
