Courtois stalls to put Real on alert

- SIMON JONES

CHELSEA goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has rejected initial proposals over a new contract.

The 25-year-old Belgium international (right) is in the early stages of talks over an improved deal and a revised offer is expected.

Real Madrid will closely monitor the situation though the Spanish champions also have an eye on AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The 18- year- old Italian has refused to sign a new deal there and has a year left on his contract.

Manchester United’s David de Gea was Madrid’s first choice but his valuation has deterred them from making a bid so far.

Premier League champions Chelsea are prioritising new signings though have yet to agree new terms with manager Antonio Conte — or make a new contract offer to Eden Hazard.

Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Birmingham have made an offer to sign ex-Chelsea captain John Terry. He said: We’ve made a good offer. It’s up to John now.’
