NEXT UP FOR OUR HAIRO ... IT’S DREADLOCKED DUSTIN!

HE LAST HAD A HAIRCUT WHEN ANDY WAS NINE!

- MATTHEW LAMBERT

WHERE IS HE FROM?

He was born in Germany to a Jamaican father and a German mother. His family moved back to Jamaica in 1996 and Brown practised tennis at the resorts of Montego Bay. His paternal grandmother is British and he looked into playing for GB in 2010 before deciding to represent Germany. In his early years as a professional, Brown travelled the european tennis circuit living in a campervan to keep costs down.

WHAT ABOUT THAT HAIR?

BROWN’S spectacular dreadlocks are the product of over 20 years of growing and have

earned him the nickname Dreddy. His last haircut was by his mum in 1996. His dreadlocks reach down to just above his waist. Given he is 6ft 5in, that is a lot of hair! He also has a tattoo of his father Leroy’s face on his chest.

WHO ARE HIS BIG WIMBLEDON SCALPS?

Brown knocked out rafa nadal in 2015 in a huge upset on Centre Court. ‘It was a very good day at the office,’ he recalled yesterday. He also beat Lleyton Hewitt in 2013.

WHAT IS HIS PLAYING STYLE?

ALL-ACTION, all- out attack and plenty of trick shots. Brown is one of a dying breed of serve-volleyers and his athleticism allows him to cover the net superbly. ‘that’s just how I play,’ he said. ‘that has nothing to do with trying to be exciting or flashy or any of that. If people like it, then obviously that’s a nice thing, but that’s not what I think about when I go out there.’

HOW DID HE REACH THE SECOND ROUND?

He beat Portuguese world no 62 Joao Sousa 3-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. the highlight was a breathtaking diving volley winner.

DOES HE LIKE GRASS?

It suits his attacking style, but Brown said yesterday that he was disappointed by the speed of the balls. ‘I have a feeling compared to the last couple of years that the balls are a lot slower,’ he said. ‘wimbledon and grass courts should be faster.’

HOW DOES HE FEEL ABOUT FACING ANDY?

‘OBVIOUSLY it’s an honour playing against him,’ he said. ‘Andy is one of the best returners out there. I’m just going to have to find a way to be aggressive and not have him play the type of game he wants to play.’

Asked how he will adapt to not being the crowd favourite for once, he grinned and replied: ‘who said I won’t be?’
