Are you shore? The £280,000 beach hut

- By Claire Duffin

ON the sands of exclusive Mudeford Spit, there’s been a rising tide – in beach hut prices.

This pretty cabin is just the latest on the peninsula to go on the market for an eye-watering sum.

The wooden hut, which measures just 16ft 7in by 10ft 2in, is on sale for £280,000 – making it the most expensive beach hut in the UK. For the same price you could buy a fourbedroom detached house in Huddersfield.

The price tag for Hut 78 beats the previous highest sum for a cabin, which sold for £275,000 in March. And in July 2014, Hut 433 went on sale for £270,000. Both those huts are also on Mudeford Spit.

This cabin, which sleeps four – although two have to go in the living room – has no running water and visitors have to use public toilets. Just to add to the inconvenience, you can only get to it by a 20-minute walk, a ride on a novelty tourist train or by ferry.

As well as the sky-high purchase price, the new owners will also have to pay annual rates to the council of about £500 – plus a licence fee of around £4,500 a year.
