Was it about time Doctor Who was a woman?

-

I HAVE no concerns about actress Jodie Whittaker being the new Doctor Who. What an opportunity — but I hope she gets scripts and storylines that don’t make her look like a little girl lost. We need a tough, clever and strong Doctor Who. David tenant crossed with Christopher Eccleston perhaps, but definitely someone who is prepared to rely on rather more than a sonic screwdriver and flashing lights. DAVE TUTT (behind the sofa),

Chatham, Kent. I DON’T care if the good doctor is played by a man, woman, dog or a hydrangea as long as something is done about the verbose scripts and appalling character development that have dogged the recent series.

M. GREEN, Newcastle. DOCTOR Who used to be a fun show about good triumphing over evil, but it seems to have morphed into a propaganda machine for social engineering and lectures on political correctness. this escapist TV programme was once a welcome break from the difficult realities of modern life. Now it’s a part of it, and so sadly losing its lustre.

ANGUS LONG, Newcastle. A FEMALE Doctor Who? Whatever next: Jemima Bond?

PAUL ROSE, Upton Lovell, Wilts. THIS casting of a woman as the new Doctor Who is more about advancing a PC agenda than maintaining the traditions of a wellloved TV dynasty, which until recently has withstood the meddling of BBC bosses.

TERRY HICKMAN, Southampton.
