Ex’s murder led to the trial that divided America

-

FORMER American football star OJ Simpson achieved worldwide notoriety in 1994 when his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman were found stabbed to death outside her Los Angeles home.

Five days later, after failing to hand himself in to police, Simpson set off in his white Ford Bronco in a now notorious low-speed police chase.

At his 199 trial, which many Americans believe was a travesty, Simpson was asked to try on a bloodied glove – a key piece of evidence – but was apparently unable to get them on his hands. The defence was later accused of tampering with the glove.

After Simpson was acquitted amid suspicions of police racial bias, a senior defence lawyer admitted they had played the race card. In 1997, the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Mr Goldman sued Simpson in a civil case.

He was deemed to have been liable and ordered to pay $33. million to the families. Simpson has reportedly barely made a ‘dent’ in paying that money.
