Here’s how to solve the money maze . . .
JOB opportunities in the financial services sector are opening up. ‘Permanent roles in finance increased by 7 per cent in May and salaries rose by just over 4 per cent,’ says Roger Tweedy of the Association of Professional Staffing Companies.
Daniel Cairns, 26, works for Tcam Asset Management in Edinburgh, advising clients on how to manage their wealth effectively.
‘My team helps clients meet their financial goals,’ says Daniel.
‘Global events and changes in legislation keep you on your toes and trying to pre-empt, rather than react, is always a challenge.’
After his business studies degree, Daniel got an entry- level job in financial services and worked his way to his position while studying for a diploma in financial planning and a certificate in discretionary investment management.
‘We look for flexible, enthusiastic, ambitious, Focused: Daniel Cairns diligent team players,’ says Alex Montgomery, joint chief executive of Tcam Asset Management. ‘And relevant qualifications, such as Chartered Financial Analyst or Chartered Financial Planner, are important.’ Asset management companies are always on the lookout for talented individuals, but competition is fierce for entry-level roles.
Betsy Williamson, of recruiter Core-Asset Consulting, says: ‘ In niche areas, such as risk and compliance, demand from employers is high.’
