Blame the burglars

-

THE judge who criticised footballer John Terry for posting holiday photos online (Mail) simply reinforces the belief that it is a house owner’s fault if they are burgled.

Rather than handing deterrent jail sentences to burglars, the blame is transferred to the victim for not bolting doors, leaving a window open or having sub- standard locks. Perhaps sending postcards will be the next offence!

None of the above constitutes an invitation to have your home broken into and should not be a mitigating factor in sentencing criminals.

The belief that an Englishman’s home is his castle seems to have been forgotten.

JOHN TERRY gets the satisfaction of knowing those who broke into his house and took his wife’s designer handbags received an average sentence of seven years.

Most of us only get a crime number. Burglary appears to be taken seriously by the police only if it’s committed against the wealthy.
