Mia in the saddle, just like Mummy!

- By Fiona Parker

HER mother and grandmother have both ridden in the Olympics, so it was surely only a matter of time before Mia Tindall took the reins.

And the three- year- old looked a natural in the saddle yesterday as she tried out a mechanical riding simulator.

Wearing a black safety helmet tightly strapped around her chin, Mia looked to be enjoying herself at the Festival of British Eventing, which is being held this weekend in the grounds of their home at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire.

Mia’s grandmother was the first member of the Royal Family to compete in the Olympics.

Princess Anne was part of the British eventing team for the 1976 Montreal Games in Canada, riding the Queen’s horse Goodwill. The Princess Royal did not make the Olympic podium, but during her career she did win medals at the European Championships.

The princess took gold in 1971 – the same year she was BBC Sports Personality of the Year – and two silvers in 1976.

And at London 2012, Mia’s mother Zara Tindall won an Olympic silver for the team eventing – and was presented with her medal by the Princess Royal. However, the 36-yearold failed to qualify when she tried to make the team for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Of course, eventing is not the only sport to run in Mia’s family – her father Mike Tindall, 38, was part of England’s rugby union team that won the World Cup in 2003.
