Freezing stowaways hid away under lorries on 90mph train
A DOZEN migrants have been found shivering under lorries on a freight train near the Germany-Austria border.
Seven adults and five children were picked up in Bavaria after a train inspector spotted a human hand gripping a lorry tyre. Using heat-detection cameras, officials realised there were 12 stowaways hidden under lorries which were being transported on the train.
Most of the migrants, who said they were from Somalia, Nigeria and Ivory Coast, were wearing only shorts and t-shirts. One had an injured leg. They were found on Wednesday at a train station in the southern town of Raubling on a freight train – which can reach 93mph – from Verona in Italy to Munich. They were given blankets by German officials. Local police spokesman Rainer Scharf said yesterday: ‘They were freezing cold and in a poor physical state.’
