DAVID RAWLINGS: Poor David’s Almanack (Acony)
SINGER and guitarist Rawlings teams up once more with Gillian Welch on an album of folk-rock and country that has a homespun, campfire feel. Simple string arrangements, a bluegrass backing band and Welch’s harmonies are fine foils for the Rhode Islander’s story-songs, with Cumberland Gap reminiscent of early Neil Young and Money Is The Meat In The Coconut a fiddle-driven hoedown.
