Strictly’s new contestant... comic who hates dancing
So far, this year’s Strictly contestants have been something of a disappointment to the show’s loyal fans.
And their spirits were unlikely to be raised by the announcement of the latest addition to the show’s line up – a Scottish comedian who doesn’t even like dancing.
Stand-up comedian Susan Calman, known for her panel appearances on several Radio 4 quiz shows, was named yesterday as the ninth celebrity hoping to cha cha her way to the Strictly final.
However, Miss Calman, who is just 4ft 10in, admitted she had always been the ‘last one on the dancefloor’ during an appearance on Jeremy Vine’s BBC Radio 2 show yesterday
‘I don’t particularly enjoy dancing in a lot of ways, I haven’t worn heels or a dress since I was 17 and I haven’t danced with a man in over a decade,’ said the 42year-old, pictured, who married her wife Lee Cormack in 2012. She added that she was ‘terrified but excited’.
Fans lamented that another little-known celebrity had been added to this year’s billing, which so far includes former JLS singer Aston Merrygold and Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson.
Tracey Shipham tweeted: ‘I am really disappointed with the line up so far I’ve not even heard of the latest “celeb”.’
But other celebrities were quick to share their excitement. Fellow comic Jennifer Saunders tweeted: ‘ This is going to be brilliant! Go Susan.’ Meanwhile Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said the news was ‘awesome awesome stuff’.
