My ex Annie was at birth of my girls, says Dave Stewart
THEy were inseparable on stage as one of pop music’s most famous duos.
But long after the height of their Eurythmics fame, it seems Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox continued as a double act in their private lives.
Stewart has revealed Miss Lennox, his former girlfriend, was present at the births of both his daughters with third wife Anoushka Fisz.
The 64-year-old, worth £40 million, dated Miss Lennox, 62, in the late 1970s before going on to form the Eurythmics with her in 1980. Stewart even described his romantic and musical partnership with the Love Is A Stranger singer as his fourth marriage.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: ‘I’ve been married three times but the relationship with Annie was a huge chunk of my life and still is so I always think I was married four times.
‘Annie was at the birth of both of my daughters. She had a really strong bond with my wife. She was in the room with my wife and Anoushka’s mother [ for the births]. By then Anoushka and her had been friends for three years. She had already been through that [childbirth] and Anoushka hadn’t. It was a trust thing.’
He added: ‘Annie and I were an unstoppable force, it’s a relationship that had so much history.’
The guitarist, who is playing two concerts in London and his home town Sunderland next month to mark his 65th birthday, married Miss Fisz, a Dutch photographer, in 2001.
As well as his daughters Kaya, 17, and Indya, 15, Stewart also has two grown-up sons, Django and Sam, with his second wife, Bananarama singer Siobhan Fahey.
As the Eurythmics, Stewart and Miss Lennox enjoyed global success throughout the 1980s, selling more than 75 million records with hits such as Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).
Despite remaining close friends, the pair have not performed as the Eurythmics since 2005.
Mother- of-two Miss Lennox married her third husband, South African gynaecologist Dr Mitch Besser, in 2012.
Stewart is performing at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on September 8 and the Sunderland Empire on September 10.
