NASSER HUSSAIN’S 1st TEST RATINGS

-

ENGLAND

ALASTAIR COOK 9.5 Batted for nearly 10 hours and walked off as if he had been batting for 10 minutes. Phenomenal concentration.

MARK STONEMAN 5 Got out to a beauty so I cannot be too critical. Looks less mechanical than Keaton Jennings.

TOM WESTLEY 4 The repetitive nature of his dismissals are becoming a concern. Needs to play straight early on.

JOE ROOT 9 A joy to watch with the bat and captaincy was excellent, keeping Stuart Broad fresh for when the lights came on.

DAWID MALAN 7 Will be pleased with his 65 and played some nice shots. Needs one more big score to cement Ashes place.

BEN STOKES 6 Gave wicket away for the cause looking for quick runs but his bowling is improving with every game.

JONNY BAIRSTOW 7 Also gave his wicket away for the team. Good keeping in difficult conditions when the lights were on.

MOEEN ALI 7 Bowled well. Little turn but created drift and used the breeze to challenge the outside edge.

TOBY ROLAND-JONES 7.5 Useful wickets again. Bowled fuller than I anticipated but got batsmen out coming forward.

STUART BROAD 7.5 Career figures almost identical to Sir Ian Botham’s, which tells you everything.

JIMMY ANDERSON 8 His new-ball spell was exceptional, changing his length to set up batsmen with different deliveries.
