Trump’s navy sacks ‘collision fleet’ chief
A COMMANDER in the US Navy was sacked yesterday following a string of warship collisions in Asia.
Ten sailors are missing after the USS John S. McCain hit an oil tanker near Singapore on Monday – the fourth collision this year. Human remains have been found in a flooded compartment of the ship.
A US Navy statement said Vice Admiral Joseph Aucoin, commander of its Asia-based 7th Fleet, had been dismissed ‘due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command’.
Two months ago, seven sailors died when a warship hit a vessel near Japan.
In May, a missile cruiser hit a South Korean boat, while in January another cruiser ran aground in Japanese waters.
