CUT GRASS READY TO PLANT BULBS

-

IF YOU want to naturalise bulbs in rough grass, mow now to make it easier when you come to plant them in late september.

You’ll be able to scatter the bulbs at random without losing any in the long grass, creating a truly natural look.

If you have flower-rich rough grass, it will also benefit from a cut. Before raking up the clippings, allow them to lie for a few days for the flower seed to be shed.

Cut the rough grass once or twice in autumn — with mower blades set high — and spring grassland flowers such as celandines, cowslips (right), primroses and cuckoo flower, will all benefit.

never feed a grass meadow, as doing so will cause the grasses to grow vigorously and smother the wildflowers.
