SAD FOR DON, BUT TWO GO ON
I’VE been at the Twenty20 Blast quarter-finals and there has been sadness and joy. The sadness came with the passing of Don Shepherd (above), a fantastic man of cricket who took more than 2,000 wickets for Glamorgan. The joy was in seeing two others of that parish — Alan Jones, 78, who scored more than 36,000 runs, and Ossie Wheatley, who still looked dapper at 82.
BATS OUT OF HELL
DEJA VU all over again! England were 37 for three and 78 for four on one of the flattest pitches you will ever see. A golden opportunity spurned by Mark Stoneman, Tom Westley and Dawid Malan to book their Ashes places.
BUMBLE’S BREW ON WAY
I WENT looking for the Prince of Wales pub. They’ve changed its name to the Baht’ap and spruced it up. It’s got a roof! Met a retired policeman in there who has opened his own brewery — Quirky Ales. He’s working on Bumble’s Brew!
