WINSTON C ran really well when placed at glorious goodwood and looks to have a great opportunity in the Betfred Melrose Stakes. the son of rip Van Winkle finished strongly to take third behind Londinium — and the way he finished suggested he would be suited by today’s extra two furlongs. there looks to be plenty of improvement in Winston c and the other positives about him are a decent draw and a good apprentice on board in david egan. i have not ridden Winston c on the gallops at Newmarket, but there are positive vibes about him from the stable of trainer Michael Bell. a female jockey has never won the feature Betfred ebor handicap but Josephine gordon has a good chance to be the first on Sir Michael Stoute-trained DUBKA. the daughter of dubawi was only beaten a neck by endless time in the group three Lillie Langtry Stakes at glorious goodwood. that form entitles her to go close. gordon’s colleague hollie doyle also has a ride in the race on Scarlet dragon, a winner on this card a year ago. the duo have definite each-way claims. i like FROZEN ANGEL in the gimcrack Stakes. the tom dascombetrained colt has run well in defeat on his last two outings, finishing second to Unfortunately in the group two Prix robert Papin and just losing to Sioux Nation in the group One Phoenix Stakes.
