Introducing our newest councillor ... Lord Lucan!

-

FOR a moment, it appeared that one of the great modern mysteries had been solved. Lord Lucan was alive... and living on the outskirts of Bognor Regis.

The picture of a new councillor printed in a parish magazine was clearly that of the runaway 7th earl, who vanished in 1974 after killing his children’s nanny.

In fact, Bersted council in West Sussex had mistakenly used Lucan’s photo when announcing new members Keir Greenway, Trevor Marshall and Paul Ralph. The Lucan mugshot, captioned ‘Paul’, was put in as a joke when retired lawyer Mr Ralph failed to submit a photo in time. It was not intended to be published. Mr Ralph, 77, said: ‘I laughed like a drain when I saw it – but I wish they hadn’t used someone so notorious.’
