It was rape victims’ fault, says woman who found girls for abusers
A WHITE woman who recruited victims as young as 13 to be raped by an Asian grooming gang was jailed yesterday for six years.
Carolann Gallon, 22, known as ‘Chucky’, took girls from care homes to drug parties where they were sexually exploited in a four-day rape ordeal.
But Gallon blamed her victims saying their abuse was ‘ selfinflicted’. In a police statement she said: ‘They shouldn’t have too much to drink. If they want to go with them, they have got their own mind to go with people.
‘They are not some kid, they are 15 or 16. If they’re mortal [drunk] they are going to do something, why get [drunk] in the first place. It’s self-inflicted, I’ve got no sympathy.’ Over four days 17 members of the Newcastle gang have been sentenced to a total of more than 180 years in prison.
Police identified up to 108 victims, almost all of whom were white, and 22 gave evidence in court. At depraved ‘sessions’ in properties around the city they were expected to offer sex in return for alcohol and drugs, and were passed around the closeknit group of men.
One gang member was heard to say: ‘White women are only good for men like me to f*** and use as trash’. Mainly British-born, the abusers were from the Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, Kurdish Iraqi, Iranian, and Turkish communities. Gallon, a mother- of- two, wept as she was sentenced to six years, three months, yesterday for three counts of trafficking for sexual exploitation, alongside Kurdish- born Abdulhamid Minoyee, 34, who received 15 years for rape, sexual assault and drug supply.
The court heard how she came from a chaotic background, suffering neglect from her parents.
But when she was 17 she started a relationship with Minoyee, and was asked on several occasions to find young, vulnerable girls for him and his friends to have sex with.
In January 2013 she took two
‘Scared, ashamed and embarrassed’
girls from a care home in Bishop Auckland in a car driven by another man to a house in Gateshead. The two girls then suffered a horrific four- day ordeal where they were passed around groups of older men at several addresses.
When one of them said she had been raped, Gallon mocked her mercilessly, the court heard.
Another time, when Gallon was 17, she brought a 13-year-old girl to her house who had run away from her foster home.
John Elvidge QC said: ‘She ran away from her foster carer and was reported missing. She was found the next day at the home of Carolann Gallon and her mother Julia. When she returned to her foster home her hands were bruised and she had love bites on her neck.
‘She said she and her friend had been held against their will at a boy’s house. She was drunk and had been forced to have sex.’ On a third time she provided a girl, who had learning difficulties for Minoyee, who gave the girl cannabis and raped her when she was intoxicated.
He was left with a ‘big grin’ on his face, while his victim told police ‘she was scared, ashamed and embarrassed’, the judge said.
Each time Gallon, who is said to be bisexual, took girls to parties they were exploited, and in at least two cases allegations of rape were reported to the police. But Gallon, who broke bail and continued to hang around older Asian and African men while on bail, did not care. Her victims described, in heartbreaking statements, the impact of her crimes.
One said she suffered from ‘night terrors’ and is scared to go out alone after she was shouted at by Gallon in the street during a chance meeting.
Other girls, 16 when they were first attacked, said they were treated like ‘meat’. In total the gang were found guilty of close to 100 crimes, with eight of the defendants facing long sentences of ten years or more behind bars.
One last gang member, Nadeem Aslam, 43, will be sentenced for drug offences next week.
